Atlantis teams up with NEW for 160MW tidal project

Atlantis Resources has formed a partnership with Natural Energy Wyre (NEW) to develop the Wyre tidal project in England. The 160MW Wyre project, planned to be built between Fleetwood and Knott’s End on the Lancashire coast, is expected to produce up to 400GWh of power each year, coupled with flood protection.

Fair Head Tidal submits 100MW tidal scheme plans

Fair Head Tidal has lodged the planning application for permission to install tidal turbines and associated infrastructure on the seabed off County Antrim, Northern Ireland. DP Energy, together with Bluepower, makes up the project company Fair Head Tidal established to drive forward the proposed 100MW tidal scheme.

Minesto plans eightfold scale-up of Welsh tidal project

Minesto has revealed plans to expand the commercial roll-out of its Deep Green technology in Wales by increasing the planned installed capacity of its tidal energy array in Holyhead Deep to 80MW. The scoping report has been submitted to UK consenting authorities Marine Management Organisation (MMO) and Natural Resources Wales (NRW).

Giant wave device sails across Atlantic for Wave Hub trials

US-based wave energy developer GWave has unveiled plans to deploy a 9MW wave energy device at the Wave Hub testing center in UK. The company is currently preparing to bring the first full-scale device for testing purposes at the Wave Hub test center, off Cornwall, targeting summer 2018 to deploy the device. GWave and its partners are conducting detailed tests of the mooring system at the COAST laboratory.

BPS replaces bioWAVE cable

BioPower Systems (BPS) has installed a new subsea cable at the bioWAVE wave project site near Port Fairy, Australia. The newly installed electro-optical armored cable has replaced a previous cable that was damaged in 2016, and subsequently removed.
