Penguin wave energy converter marks 150-day milestone

Wello Oy has informed that Penguin wave energy converter (WEC) has now been operational 150 days since its deployment from the beginning of March.

The 1MW Penguin WEC was installed at the European Marine Energy Centre’s (EMEC’s) grid-connected wave test site at Billia Croo by Orkney-based Green Marine.

Marine Energy Wales gets funding for META project 

Marine Energy Wales has received funding from the Coastal Communities Fund for their Marine Energy Test Area (META) project.

The project aims to create pre-consented testing areas in the Milford Haven Waterway for technology developers to deploy non-grid connected devices, test components and deployment techniques, as well as providing the opportunity for research.

SINN Power bags grant for wave energy research in Greece 

With the €1.0 million grant from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi), SINN Power plans to expand its research activities on Crete with additional wave energy converter tests over the next two years.

Using the financial support of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi), SINN Power plans to install five wave energy converter modules in spring 2018.

Borealis becomes official partner of Waves4Power 

Borealis informed that it will become an official partner of Waves4Power (W4P), a Sweden-based company that develops and sells wave energy systems.

The heart of these systems is the WaveEL buoy – a point absorber – that converts the energy of waves into electrical power, the company explained.

Nova Innovation bags funds for Wales ops 

Nova Innovation has been awarded a grant of £265,000 by Cronfa Cymunedau’r Arfordir (Coastal Communities Fund) to help to establish its operations in Wales.

The funding, which will be spread over a three-year period, will help to support four full-time posts in North Wales and the establishment of a turbine assembly facility.
