Scotland approves 30MW West Islay tidal farm

The Scottish government has granted the planning consent for a 30-turbine tidal energy farm to be located off the south-west coast of Islay. The project, being developed by DP Marine Energy with its Belgian partner Bluepower, is expected to create up to 32 full time jobs, producing enough power to cover the needs of 18,000 homes.

Atlantis negotiates long-term lease for Wyre tidal project

Atlantis Resources has entered negotiations with the Duchy of Lancaster as its preferred developer for the buildout of the proposed Wyre tidal barrage project. The project is predicted to be capable of producing almost 300GWh of sustainable energy each year, coupled with flood protection capabilities.

Tocardo earns Ofgem creds

Dutch tidal energy developer Tocardo Tidal Power has obtained accreditation from the UK’s regulator for gas and electricity Ofgem under the renewables obligation scheme for its 1.4MW deployment at the European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC).

Sabella holds up D10 redeployment

French tidal energy developer Sabella has decided to postpone the redeployment of its D10 tidal turbine off France to conduct more tests. The 1MW tidal turbine has been undergoing maintenance works at the Port of Brest since its retrieval in July last year.

Eco Wave Power unveils Mexico wave plant plans

The Mexican subsidiary of Israeli wave energy developer Eco Wave Power (EWP) has unveiled plans to construct a 4.1MW wave energy power plant in the Mexican state of Colima. The construction of the project is expected to begin upon the receipt of the final permits.
