Cork-based renewable energy development company, DP Energy, has been shortlisted for the annual Marine Industry Awards in the Offshore Ireland category.

DP Energy, based in Buttevant, County Cork is currently developing 339 MW of tidal projects along the coasts of Canada, Scotland and Ireland.

The firm is finalising a planning submission for a 100 MW tidal array which would be installed about 1 km north east of Fair Head, County Antrim.

The Marine Industry Awards, in association with SeaFest, aim to honour the contribution of companies and organisations to the overall development of the sector.

According to DP Energy, the company has been nominated for its efforts to support the marine energy industry through lobbying, policy engagement and networking at EU level, singling out the company CEO’s engagement as stakeholder in the design of the proposed new EU Investment Platform for marine renewables.

Simon De Pietro, DP Energy’s CEO, said: “We secured a lease from The Crown Estates (TCE) for the development of a 30 MW project off the west coast of Islay in Scotland and then a further lease for a 100 MW site off the coast of Antrim at Fair Head, both of these projects are now being developed in conjunction with Bluepower a joint venture between DEME and Nuhma. Since then we have added a 200 MW site at Westray South in Orkney and two berths at the Fundy Ocean Research Centre for Energy (FORCE) in Nova Scotia.”

One of the companies active in tidal energy sector, also nominated for the award in the Offshore Ireland category, is tidal turbines manufacturer OpenHydro.

The winners will be announced at the awards ceremony on June 30, 2016, at the Radisson Blu Galway.
