Supported by its marine operations partner Atlantic Towing, Cape Sharp Tidal deployed 300 m of power and fibre-optic data cable from a specially-outfitted barge. In addition to cable installation, Cape Sharp Tidal launched The Scotia Tide barge, designed by OpenHydro and built by Aecon Group in Pictou. The barge is purpose-built for deployment and recovery operations.
Atlantis Resources has entered into collaboration agreement with JDR Cable Systems to develop subsea cabling solutions for tidal energy sector. Under the 5-year agreement Atlantis and JDR will look to develop solutions for storage, installation, monitoring, connection, termination, testing, and design of offshore subsea cables.
Tidal energy developers are being invited to prepare expressions of interest in deploying their devices in the Morlais Tidal Energy Demonstration Zone off Anglesey. The expressions of interest will be the first opportunity for developers to officially register their interest in deploying in the zone, which will be followed by a full application process in early 2016.
The European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC) has signed a contract to provide advice on the development of a marine energy test facility in Nagasaki Prefecture, Japan. EMEC will advise on the infrastructure needed to develop a test site, from subsea cables, and grid connection to resource data instrumentation, as well as the wider infrastructure required in the region to support marine energy deployments.
Orkney-based marine energy consultancy Aquatera has secured a contract with Chinese wave technology developer FINIMA. Aquatera will provide programme management and technical support for FINIMA’s upcoming technology development activities in the UK. FINIMA is developing a multi-point absorber wave energy device as part of Aimmer project.
