The Basque Energy Agency (EVE) will financially support demonstration and validation of emerging marine energy technologies with €2.5 million. subsidies will be made available for pilot projects demonstrating and validating full scale, or almost full scale, prototypes of wave energy converters, floating wind platforms, and offshore wind turbines.
The Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI), the Marine Institute and Commissioners of Irish Lights have completed the construction of the Galway Bay underwater ocean observatory. The observatory equipment will allow ocean energy developers to monitor how their devices are performing in the ocean as well as give ocean researchers real-time access to monitor ongoing changes in the marine environment.
SMRU Consulting, Natural Resources Wales (NRW) and the Scottish Association for Marine Science (SAMS), together with Sea Mammal Research Unit, have published a new guidance on marine mammal surveying requirements at wave and tidal energy sites in Wales. The report provides a framework for assessing risk to marine mammals from wave and tidal stream developments.
Wave for Energy, an Italian wave energy developer, has deployed ISWEC wave energy device off Pantelleria island, Italy, on August 8, 2015. Currently, the device is not producing electricity, and Wave for Energy plans to switch on the system next week, when stronger waves are expected at ISWEC deployment site. The system is moored at a distance of about 800 m from the shore and at 35 m depth in the northwest side of Pantelleria island.
talian National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development (ENEA), in collaboration with the Polytechnic Univeristy of Turin, has developed PEWEC wave energy converter. PEWEC (Pendulum Wave Energy Converter) is a floating, raft-resembling device that can be positioned offshore, and that relies on the hull oscillation induced by waves for electricity production.
